I don’t usually blog, but when I do, it’s dramatic.
Some things have happened today that have made me think about what beauty is.
Today, I was thrilled to receive a tank top I had ordered in my P.O. box at school. I bought it from a Twitter account’s online store and they requested that people tweet pictures of themselves wearing the merchandise. So I did. I know, I know, I probably shouldn’t have, because the Internet is a cruel mistress indeed- but I thought hey, I’m feeling confident today, maybe I will.
My tweet read: “Repping my home state at Ole Miss in my fly new tank top”
Not one hour later, someone RT’d with the reply “and making us look horrendous.”
It just made me wonder we are to pass such judgement on other people. Did @randomdoucher83 really think that he is the supreme authority on whether or not I was attractive? Can anyone really pass judgement on anybody else? Everyone is beautiful to somebody. I honestly do believe beauty is objective, and I believe big CAN be beautiful.
The girl I see in the picture has some weight on her, yeah. She has a bit of a stomach, and some love handles coming over her shorts. But I don’t think that this renders her incapable of being beautiful.
I felt pretty bad, and then I realized I shouldn’t. Instead I feel bad for the backwards-visor wearing guy who can’t see beauty in all different kinds of people and ruled me out based on my size.
I really think there’s beauty in everyone.
